Celebrate 50 years of the Wilderness Act by volunteering at your national park on National Public Lands Day. Joshua Tree National Park Ranger Pam Tripp tells us how you can help, and when…
“Helping Hands for America’s Lands.” This slogan describes our nation’s celebration of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 27. Sign up will be at 8:00 a.m. at Oasis Visitor Center. This year, volunteers will make seed-balls for park reforestation. Preservation of public land for the benefit of all is an expression of democracy in action. Joshua Tree National Park invites local residents and groups such as Boy and Girl Scouts, church groups, social and business clubs and other interested groups, to join in the fun. By working together toward a shared goal, we all benefit from long-term use and enjoyment of these precious lands. Participants will receive a coupon for a “fee-free” day at any national park or federal agency site, as well as a heartfelt thank you and the feeling of participating in something that “matters.” Entrance fees for all park visitors will be waived on September 27. For further information about National Public Lands Day, contact the park at 760-367-5500.
