HOW YOUR NATIONAL PARK WORKS

The 1250 square miles of National Park on our doorstep looks untended.  Ranger Pam Tripp gives a hint of how much goes on behind the scenes to tend it…

Joshua Tree National Park consists of approximately 800,000 acres of land, which requires the service of many employees. The park is made up of five different divisions. The Interpretive Division is the place to begin for information at visitor centers, and programs in the park. Maintenance is the division that takes care of campgrounds, buildings, trails, and roads.  Resources division looks out for the vegetation and wildlife within.  Protection division handles park fees, emergency services, search and rescue, fire, and enforcement of law. The division of Administration handles the necessary processes and procedures needed for payroll, budget, and purchases. Without each and every one of these divisions it would be very difficult to run the park.

This begins a series of Public Service Announcements about what your national park does to help preserve the land for future generations of visitors and staff.  For more information about the park and its organization, call us at 760-367-5500.   For Z107.7, this is Park Ranger Pam Tripp, encouraging you to get to know how your national park works.
