NATIONAL PARK SERVICES CELEBRATES 100 YEARS

Our National Park is celebrating its centennial anniversary. Park Ranger Pam Tripp shares some of its history…
“To conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations.” These words from the “Organic Act” were signed and put in place on August 25, 1916, when President Woodrow Wilson signed the act creating the National Park Service. This new federal bureau in the Department of the Interior was responsible for protecting the 35 national parks and monuments then managed by the department. It now includes over 400 national park sites, such as Joshua Tree National Park. This year we celebrate 100 years of service and protection for the lands we can all enjoy today.
