Joshua Tree National Park has lifted their temporary closure of the 49 Palms Hiking Trail. On June 14, park managers closed the area to allow bighorn sheep undisturbed access to surface water. Recent rainfall and cooler temperatures have prompted managers to lift the closure and reopen the area. Some bighorn sheep are still traveling to the oasis, so visitors are asked to give them space to drink and to not approach them or any wildlife in the park. Hikers are also urged to avoid hiking in the middle of the day, planning to begin their hikes at or before sunrise and end by 10 a.m. or not to begin until after 4 p.m. For more information, visit the link below.
