Sheriff’s investigators have released the name of the suspect in a Yucca Valley carjacking and murder who was killed in San Bernardino after a high speed chase. Thursday, May 9, deputies responded to a shots fired call at the Town Center Mall in Yucca Valley. and found a white sedan that appeared to be stuck on a curb. Deputies found Obette Lacap, 33, of Beaumont, slumped over in the driver’s seat and determined he had been shot and killed. A description of the suspect vehicle was broadcast and California Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop on the vehicle in the Town of Yucca Valley, a pursuit ensued, involving the CHP and the Sheriff’s Department. The pursuit continued at high speed to San Bernardino where both suspects exited their vehicle and began firing weapons at pursuing officers. A CHP Officer, out of the Border Division, was struck in the leg. Officers returned fire, striking both suspects. Bryan Valle, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene; Jose Gomez, 19, was wounded. Both suspects were from Earlimart, California, north of Bakersfield. The suspect and injured officer were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were treated. Gomez was arrested; the CHP officer has been released.
