MUSD VOTES ON STADIUM IMPROVEMENTS CONTRACTS, RURAL DESIGNATION FOR DISTRICT

Several action items were also scheduled for last night’s busy regular session meeting of the Morongo Unified School District Board of Trustees. Assignment reporter Chris Fleischman joins us again with more details from the meeting…

In addition to approving the contract for a new district superintendent, Dr. Patricio Vargas, the Morongo Unified School District Board of Trustees voted on several action items during last night’s (April 19) regular session meeting. The trustees unanimously voted to designate MUSD as a rural school district, which exempts the district from enacting recent state legislation affecting start times for middle and high schools.

The board also approved several resolutions related to the recent change to CALPERS as the health and welfare provider for district employees, a move which is projected to save benefit-eligible employees in the district over $2 million in out of pocket costs. Other action items included a vote to designate May 11 the Day of the Teacher and May 16 through 20 as Classified School Employee Week, both of which were unanimously approved by the board.

They also voted unanimously to approve contracts for stadium improvements at Twentynine Palms High School, totaling nearly $4 million, in addition to voting to approve repainting contracts for Twentynine High and asphalt patching in the district.
