MUSD Enrollment Committee expected to recommend “no school closures” to Board of Trustees tonight (6/9)

The committee in charge of recommending actions to the Morongo Unified School District (MUSD) regarding decreased enrollment is expected to bring their findings in front of the district’s board of trustees at their meeting Tuesday (June 9).
First up: a work study and closed session from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. where the board is expected to go over the 2026-2027 budget and fund balance, along with some final actions regarding student expulsion and public employee dismissals and appointments.
The open session begins at 6:00 pm where the Board of Trustees will share their findings from the two hours earlier. There will also be a legislative report, along with reports from representatives to the Board of Education, the Superintendent and staff members.
The Enrollment Committee is expected to present their recommendation from the meetings that committee has been holding since January. Decreased student enrollment numbers has the school district looking for a way to address the lack of income that goes hand-in-hand with less students, and early discussions about potentially closing and consolidating elementary schools were met with strong opposition from parents, students, teachers and faculty members.
The meeting begins tonight at 6:00 p.m. at Joshua Tree Elementary School located at 4950 Sunburst Avenue in Joshua Tree.
