MUSD discusses graduation rates bouncing back post-COVID

Earlier this month, MUSD Assistant Superintendents for Secondary and Elementary Education Amy Woods and Dr. Graciela Gutierrez were the guests on the Z107.7 Up Close Show. They discussed the district’s reclassification of 6th graders, moving them from elementary school to Junior High School in Twentynine Palms.
Daigneault asked about the district’s fluctuating graduation rates, to which Woods said,
“Our graduation rates took a dip post COVID, which happened at every school in the country. We are recovering from that. The graduation rates have risen slowly but surely.
Our goal to have, at least 1% increase every year. And the really exciting thing is our college and career indicators are going up. Our reading and math scores are going up in the elementary programs.
And in state testing results, Morongo Unified is usually at the top or very, very near the top in that. I’ve seen that myself. So, it’s a very successful district, and people don’t realize what a good district it is.”
