During last night’s, June 14 regular session meeting of the Morongo Unified School District, the Board of Trustees heard presentations and held public hearings for the 2022-2023 Local Control Accountability Plan, or LCAP, and the Budget Overview for Parents, or BOP, though there were no comments during these hearings. During public comment, however, concerns continued to be raised over class size projections for next year. Others in attendance spoke to the essential function classified employees serve in the district amid ongoing contract negotiations. The Board of Trustees also recognized Joni Delgado as the School Nutrition Associations’ Employee of the Year for the State of California and the Western Region of The United States.
Later, the board moved swiftly through their votes on action items, unanimously approving the A-G Completion Improvement Grant Plan and extending the district’s contract with Burrtec Waste and Recycling for the 2022-2023 school year. They also unanimously authorized the submission of a Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators as a prerequisite for an emergency permit for 2022-2023.
Finally, during board comments, Trustee L Hilary Slotta announced that she will not be seeking reelection. According to Slotta, “I wish for the new board member to have the experience of running for office and earn their place on the board through the election process.”
