MUSD BOARD MEETS TONIGHT TO APPROVE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT FOR TEACHERS

The Morongo Unified School District Board of Trustees will meet in regular session tonight (October 26) at Joshua Tree Elementary School, with closed session beginning at 6:30 p.m. and open session at 7 p.m. As part of the closed session, the board will hold conference with labor negotiators for the Morongo Teachers’ Association and the California School Employees Association, in addition to discussing the district’s superintendent position, currently held by interim Superintendent Doug Weller. During a packed open session, the board will hold a public hearing for the tentative agreements with the Morongo Teachers Association and Management, Supervisory, Confidential, and Contract Employees. There will also be a presentation about Delta Math, and Heidi Burgett, the MUSD SELPA Director, will present the Specialized Education Superheroes honors as part of Disabilities Awareness Month. Several action items are planned for tonight’s meeting, including votes on the tentative agreements and salary schedules for the superintendent, teachers, management, classified, and other district employees for this academic year. There will also be votes for a compensation increase for the board as well as contract addenda for the assistant superintendents. The board will also vote to adopt the expenditure plan for the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Relief (or ESSER) Fund. Over $21 million in ESSER funding will be used between the 2021 and 2024 school years to address students’ academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs, as well as COVID-19 mitigation strategies.
