The Morongo Unified School District Board of Trustees will meet in regular session tonight at Joshua Tree Elementary School, with closed session beginning at 6:00 p.m. and open session beginning at 7 p.m. With only this regular session meeting planned for the month of November, the board anticipates a busy agenda. During closed session, the board will conference with labor negotiators from the Morongo Teachers Association and the California School Employees Association. During open session, the board will be treated to a student performance from Yucca Valley High School’s Select Choir. Later, the board will review district policies for the identification and evaluation of students for special education, especially in light of disruptions caused by COVID-19, as well as updated policies for students with disabilities enrolled in private school by their parents. Assistant Superintendent Amy Woods will also review the 2021 plan for educator effectiveness block grant funds. Several action items are planned for tonight’s meeting, including a vote to approve a contract for the ongoing implementation of an energy improvement project in the district. The estimated $6,000,000 would be paid from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (or ESSER) fund. The board also plans to vote on a request from the Information Technology department to upgrade the district’s nine-year-old network infrastructure equipment, in addition to voting on an increase in board member compensation and to approve the School Plan for Student Achievement for Twentynine Palms High School. Finally, the board will vote to designate its annual reorganization meeting for December 14.
