MUSD BOARD APPROVES ENERGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES

The Morongo Unified School District Board of Trustees met in regular session last night at Joshua Tree Elementary School. Assignment reporter Chris Fleischman has the details from last night’s meeting…

During last night’s regular session meeting of the Morongo Unified School District, Yucca Valley High School’s select choir performed several a cappella songs, much to the delight of the Board of Trustees and those in attendance. California School Employees Representative Beth Caskie delivered remarks about the urgency to hire more classified employees on a full-time basis, as two-thirds of classified employees in the district do not receive benefits. Later, the board voted to approve a contract with Trane, U.S., Inc., the district’s consultant for HVAC improvements, for the ongoing implementation of an energy improvement project in the district. The estimated $6,000,000 cost would be paid from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (or ESSER) fund. The board members also approved a request from the district Information Technology department to upgrade the district’s infrastructure equipment. The total estimated cost of the upgrades is $1,100,000, 85% of which would be paid for by E-Rate funding with the district paying the remaining 15% of costs. Finally, the board approved the county forms addressing the removal of Michael Ghelber and the delegation of Stacy Smalling as Interim Superintendent, in addition to approving the amended School Plan for Student Achievement for Twentynine Palms High School and designating the annual reorganization meeting for December 14.
