MOTORHOME AND CAR FIRE CAUSE POWER OUTAGE SATURDAY

A motorhome and the car it was towing are a total loss after a fire Saturday in Joshua Tree. According to Joshua Tree Fire Captain Dave Tuttle, about 12:45 Saturday afternoon, the driver of a 1985 motorhome started spraying some accelerant into the carburetor of the motorhome on Desert Trail Drive, between La Ferney and Sunever Avenues, across from the CHP office. The motorhome’s engine caught fire, and the fire quickly spread. By the time firefighters arrived, the motorhome, and the trailer behind it carrying a 1993 Honda Civic, were fully involved in flames. The flames discolored power lines overhead, and one fiber-optic line came down. After about 15 minutes, firefighters from Joshua Tree, Yucca Mesa, and the National Park Service were able to knock down the blaze.
