A motorcyclist died following a crash in Twentynine Palms Wednesday night. According to the Sheriff’s report, Marina Tupua, 65, of Compton, was traveling northbound in her 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser about 9 p.m. and was making a left-hand turn onto westbound Sunnyslope Drive. As she was crossing the southbound lanes of Adobe Road, John “Corey” Rector, 32, of Twentynine Palms, crested the hill just south of the intersection on his 2005 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle, traveling southbound on Adobe Road. Due to his high rate of speed, Rector did not have enough time to avoid a collision with the PT Cruiser. Rector collided broadside into the rear passenger side of the car and was thrown from his motorcycle. He sustained multiple, major traumatic injuries. He was taken by Morongo Basin Ambulance to Hi-Desert Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.
A candlelight vigil for Corey Rector will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the intersection where he was killed, Adobe Road and Sunnyslope Drive.
