A Morongo Valley woman was arrested Wednesday after her two-year-old son was found wandering unattended about two blocks from home. According to a Sheriff’s report, a woman on Rose Eden called the Sheriff’s department at 8:19 a.m. Wednesday to report she had heard what sounded like a cat screaming outside her house. When she looked outside, she saw a 2-year-old boy crying, followed by a small dog. The boy would not let the woman get close to him and was wandering around the dirt road. When the deputy arrived at 8:50 a.m., the boy’s mother, Jeannie Luttrell, 37, had found her son about five minutes earlier and was carrying him, screaming and crying, to their home in the 9800 block of Terrace Drive, about two blocks away. When Luttrell, the boy, and the deputy arrived at Luttrell’s home, she started to change his diaper and the deputy saw that the diaper was overflowing with urine and feces, and the boy was screaming due to a severe diaper rash. The report states that Luttrell told the deputy she had last seen her son at 10 p.m. the night before when she put him to sleep in the living room. She said one of her older daughters must not have closed the door when they left for school. Jeannie Luttrell was arrested for investigation of cruelty to a child, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $100,000. Child Protective Services were given custody of the two older daughters, the 2-year-old boy, and a six-month-old daughter.
