MORONGO VALLEY TO UNVEIL SAND TO SNOW NATIONAL MONUMENT SIGN

The community of Morongo Valley is wasting no time in getting ready for the new Sand-to-Snow National Monument, which will include parts of the historic far west end of our Morongo Basin. Reporter Mike Lipsitz says a new sign will go up tomorrow…
With the ink barely dry on President Obama’s order, Morongo Valley is set to celebrate the newly designated “Sand to Snow National Monument” with the unveiling of a new Welcome sign. The unveiling event takes place at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the corner of Highway 62 and Hess Blvd. in Morongo Valley. Sponsored by the Morongo Valley Chamber of Commerce, the public is invited to attend. Light refreshments and California desert national monument posters and decals will be available. Sand to Snow is one of three new national monuments in the California desert, along with Mojave Trails and Castle Mountains, that President Obama permanently protected on Friday, using his authority under the Antiquities Act. Conserving and connecting these habitats is expected to benefit local tourism and help buffer the desert, its wildlife, and communities from a changing climate.
