Morongo Valley To Consider Dogs for Mayor

The electoral race for Morongo Valley’s first Dog Mayor commences this week, with the winner to be sworn in on October 29th. Assignment reporter Gabriel Hart talked to election organizer Alison Nikyar of All American Gas.

Calling all civic-minded local canines! Morongo Valley’s first ever electoral race for a new dog mayor commences this week, with the winner to be inaugurated by Fire Chief James Brakebill on October 29th at 5pm, as part of the Halloween Extravaganza in Covington Park.

Election organizer Alison Nikvar encourages any ambitious canines of Morongo Valley to come into her family run All American Gas to register on the sign-up sheet at the front counter. Alison’s dog Roxy might be the most locally notable, sitting outside the front door of All American Gas all day greeting customers with soulful eyes, and the placement of the gas station as the first business at Morongo city limits gives Roxy an advantage for the town’s mascot at its very gates.

But before you accuse Roxy of election corruption or nepotism, Alison says “For a fair election, this has to be open to all dogs and Roxy does have one competitor so far,” says Alison. Daisey, who’s owner runs a local Wi-Fi provider, is the only other dog on the list, making it a 50/50 race at this time.
