MORONGO VALLEY MAN THREATENS PEOPLE WITH AN AXE AT THE POST OFFICE

A Morongo Valley transient was arrested Tuesday, accused of threatening people with an axe. Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Morongo Valley
Post Office about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday for a report that a man, Edward Martinez, 67, also known as “Spirit,” was taunting people with a large axe.
Deputies found that in addition to the axe, Martinez had two knives with about 10-inch blades concealed in his waistband. Edward Martinez was
arrested for investigation of carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, and on a warrant for violating a court order, booked into West Valley detention
Center, with his bail set at $75,000.
