MORONGO VALLEY MAN INJURED IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH SATURDAY

A Morongo Valley motorcyclist suffered multiple traumatic injuries following a crash on the Morongo Grade Saturday afternoon. According to the California Highway Patrol, about 4:10, David Burgoyne, 64, was riding his 1979 Honda CX500 motorcycle westbound on the highway through the Morongo Grade. About mid-way down on a curve, his motorcycle hit a patch of sand and slid out from under him; the man went sliding and his helmet became stuck under the guardrail. Morongo Valley Deputy Fire Chief Jim Brakebill said it took firefighters about 30 minutes to extricate the man, who suffered moderate to severe injuries. Brakebill added he was stable and alert when he was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs by Morongo Basin Ambulance; upon arrival, he was immediately taken into surgery. According to the CHP, alcohol was a factor in the crash.
