MORONGO VALLEY MAN ACCUSED OF SHOOTING AT A FRIEND

A 76-year-old Morongo Valley man was arrested Friday, accused of shooting a .357 Magnum at a friend. According to a Sheriff’s report, a resident in the 48400 block of Adeline Way in Morongo Valley called deputies about 2:30 p.m. Friday to say a drunk man had showed up on his doorstep and said a friend had shot at him. During the investigation, deputies learned that Jerry Highnight had been drinking beer and eating pizza with his friend in the 48300 block of Mack Drive in Morongo Valley. The victim told deputies that Highnight pulled out the .357 and pointed it at him and told him to leave or he’d shoot him. As the man was walking away, Highnight shot the gun at him. The victim then went to the neighbor’s house and asked for help. Jerry Highnight was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000.
