MORONGO VALLEY MAN ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING DEPUTY

A Morongo Valley man was arrested Wednesday, accused of assaulting a deputy. A deputy made a traffic stop near San Jacinto Street and Senilis Avenue in Morongo Valley about 9 p.m. The front passenger, identified as Robert Packer, 54, fled on foot. The deputy found Packer hiding in a bush, and Packer fled again, but was captured soon after. Packer assaulted the deputy as he was being handcuffed, giving the deputy minor injuries. The deputy used force to subdue Packer. Robert Packer was arrested for investigation of assaulting a law enforcement officer, and on multiple active warrants for his arrest, booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $50,000.
