MORONGO VALLEY FIREFIGHTERS PROTESTING MUTUAL AID WITH CALIMESA

Members of the Morongo Valley fire department will be in attendance at tonight’s Morongo Valley Community Service District board meeting to oppose a proposed mutual aid agreement with the Calimesa Fire Department. Reporter Andrew Dieleman has the details…
The Morongo Valley CSD recently announced a proposed mutual aid agreement between the Morongo Valley Fire Department and the Calimesa Fire Department. If passed, the agreement would allow the fire departments to render emergency assistance freely between the cities. The proposal, however, is being questioned. In a recent statement, Morongo Valley fire engineer Chris Palmer stated that Morongo Valley firefighters collectively oppose the decision by the fire department to enter into the agreement. According to Palmer, the firefighters believe that a dispatch to Calimesa is too far of a drive, and would leave the District without fast-responding emergency services. Members of the Morongo Valley Fire Department will be present at the meeting to protest the proposed agreement. The meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the Covington Park Community Building, 11165 Vale Drive in Morongo Valley.
Tonight’s meeting of the Morongo Valley CSD will also include final approval of the 2018-2019 district budget and discussion on a special meeting with the district’s attorney. The board will then discuss the Resolution for the Morongo Valley annual fire suppression assessment fee, possible increased wage compensation for firefighters during strike team assignments, approval for creating a new Morongo Valley Community Service District website, and approval for MVCSD resources to be used for three upcoming fundraisers.
