Morongo Valley firefighters and Brush Engine 461 have been fighting the Lake fire near Los Angeles since August 13. Since then, they have been working 24 hour shifts—24 hours on and 24 hours off. In the 10 days since they’ve been assigned to fighting the Lake fire, the crew has been assigned to a strike team. They and their strike team were able to hold Pine Canyon Road from the fire. The crew could be at the fire through the middle of next week. The Lake fire has burned about 29,000 acres and is about 52 percent contained as of Friday. Almost 1,900 firefighters are fighting the blaze.
