Morongo Valley firefighters sent a crew on its brush engine 461 to help fight the Lake fire, west of Lancaster and Palmdale. The fire started Wednesday afternoon and is now burning more than 11,000 acres and is 12 percent contained. The firefighters left about 4:30 a.m. Thursday, and are expected to be at the Lake fire for at least a week.
BE461 has been assigned to the Lake Fire since Thursday August 13 as part of Strike Team 6220C. The crew has been working 24 hours straight with 24 hours off. Amidst the extreme fire behavior and dangerous heat warnings, the fire has grown to over 18,000 acres .
