The Morongo Valley Community Services District Board of Directors met in open session last night. Among the meeting topics was a discussion on the possibility of placing a Morongo Valley fire tax on the upcoming November election ballot. The board authorized the creation of an ad hoc committee to conduct further research and determine if a fire tax is a feasible option for pursuing district funding. Reporter Andrew Dieleman tells us more about the events at last night’s meeting…
At last night’s meeting, the Morongo Valley CSD conducted its yearly vote for board president and vice president, voting unanimously to keep Gayl Swarat as president and Kristina Brook as vice president. The board then discussed the cost of attorney fees that have resulted from board-related problems. The board reported spending an estimated $6,500 on these fees in 2016 and 2017 alone. The board collectively agreed to try to reduce future problems to avoid unnecessary spending. The board also voted to move non-agenda public comments to earlier during District meetings due to the district’s commonly-lengthy meetings; introduced the district’s new website for the posting of district meeting agendas; and voted to pursue a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety which, if awarded, would provide funding for much-needed Morongo Valley fire department equipment.
