At last night’s meeting of the Morongo Valley Community Services District, General Manager Donna Munoz confirmed a LAFCO requirement that the District secure at least 50 percent of the funds needed for a new fire engine before any commitment to purchase, in order to prove solvency. Munoz also told the board that the CSD is being challenged by LAFCO to get its finances in order to avoid threatened dissolution and county takeover of Covington Park and fire service there. In other business, directors approved a letter urging Congressman Cook to support the proposed California Desert Conservation and Recreation Act, which would protect 1.6 million acres of federal land securing vital wildlife corridors, view sheds, and recreational areas important to off road enthusiasts and other recreating. In other business, any possible action in connection with censure of a director was tabled pending review by legal counsel of the board’s disciplinary policy.
