Last night (December 27), the Morongo Valley Community Services District Board met to set the parameters for the appointment of two new board members and discuss fire department staffing under new Director of Operations Jim Brakebill. Reporter Jef Harmatz attended the meeting and brings us the details.
At last night’s special meeting, the CSD board decided how to proceed with filling the two board seats vacated by members who resigned at the previous meeting. CSD Board rules require that a notice to fill the vacant positions be posted for 15 days, and the board asked staff to post the notice on Wednesday, making January 13 the deadline for applications. Applicants must be 18 years or older, live in Morongo Valley, be a registered voter in San Bernardino County and write a short application essay. The board will consider all qualified applicants for appointment at their next regular meeting on January 19. Later in the meeting, interim Director of Operations Brakebill said that nine potential new fire department hires are currently going through the backgrounding process, and that he hoped they would begin training soon, bringing the fire station to proper staffing levels. He also expressed his support for promoting Administrative Assistant Brittany Chavez, and bringing on a part-time employee to assist her.
