The Morongo Valley Community Service District Board of Directors met in open session last night with numerous topics to tackle, including AirBnB taxes and Covington Park’s aging playground equipment. Reporter Andrew Dieleman has the full meeting details…
At last night’s meeting, the Morongo Valley CSD Board of Directors discussed Covington Park’s playground equipment, which is in need of replacement due to age and being repeatedly vandalized.
The board unanimously agreed to begin the process of requesting from the County that a portion of tax revenue collected both from AirBnB rentals in Morongo Valley and from the Morongo Valley Chamber of Commerce be granted to the CSD to help pay for replacement playground equipment.
The Board also approved Morongo Valley’s 2019-2020 Fire Suppression Assessment fees and increased the length of the probationary period for Morongo Valley firefighters from 12 to 24 months.
The board also voted to amend the district’s current limit on driveway lengths for new construction projects in Morongo Valley. The current limit of 150 feet was changed to however long the driveway must be to reach the road, as long as the driveway meets all other fire safety compliance laws.
Finally, the board named Morongo Valley residents Melissa Snowden and Justin Houk as the recipients of the 2018 Chuck Osbourne Volunteer-of-the-Year Award, approved the installation of a new grease trap as phase one of the Covington Park community kitchen upgrade, and issued a call for nominations for the Morongo Valley CSD’s Above and Beyond award.
The board tabled discussions on the district’s 2019-2020 fiscal year budget review pending the addition of missing figures.
