At last night’s meeting, the Morongo Valley CSD reviewed a re-worded mutual-aid agreement proposal with the city of Calimesa. According to Morongo Valley Fire Chief Gary Yearsley, elements of the proposal were better defined, clarifying that the agreement would allow for mutual aid between the cities for select circumstances of training assistance, equipment testing, and in the event of a large-scale emergency. Chief Yearsley also emphasized that firefighters from Morongo Valley would only be sent to Calimesa if additional emergency responders remained in Morongo Valley to respond to local calls and emergencies. After a lengthy discussion, the board tabled the proposal, pending legal review. The board also reviewed a list of equipment that would be needed to bring the Covington Park community kitchen up to code, assigned June 4 as the date for the District’s upcoming public budget workshop, and reviewed nominations for the 2018 Chuck Osborne Volunteer-of-the-Year Award.
