MORONGO VALLEY CSD RESTRICTS TOBACCO AND CELL PHONE USE FOR FIREFIGHTERS

Members of the Morongo Valley Fire Department will now have greater restrictions on their use of tobacco products and personal cell phones while on duty. The Morongo Valley Community Service District board of directors unanimously adopted two new policies for the Morongo Valley Fire Department at last night’s board meeting which greatly restrict when fire fighters are allowed to use tobacco products and personal cellphones. According to Morongo Valley Fire Department Deputy Chief Jim Brakebill, the policies will help keep firefighters healthy and maintain productivity. At last night’s meeting, the board also voted to pay bonuses to members of the Morongo Valley fire department who participated in specific strike-team assignments. The board then briefly reviewed the CSD’s Code of Conduct policy and mid-year budget review; discussed candidates for the upcoming CSDA elections; and approved an adjustment to the current fire protection fee schedule for building inspections, which ensures fire-safety compliance. Lastly, the board briefly discussed nominations for the Chuck Osbourne Volunteer-of-the-Year award, which will close on April 1.
