MORONGO VALLEY CSD IN FIRE EQUIPMENT COST DILEMMA

The Morongo Valley CSD Board met in a special session last night. Reporter Mike Lipsitz said the Board is struggling with funding for fire equipment…
At last night’s special meeting of the Morongo Valley Community Services District Fire Chief Jock Johnson reported that the department’s primary vehicle, the medic engine, is no longer in service. Considerable resources have been devoted to keeping the aging engine operational, but last night directors grappled with the dilemma of dropping a large sum on a major repair when the ultimate need is to purchase a replacement that the district cannot legitimately afford to finance at this time. The board ultimately authorized $25,000 for the needed repair and will continue to save toward purchase of a replacement, possibly next year. Meanwhile, the CSD will appeal to the county board of supervisors for a loaner engine while the repairs are being made.
