The swearing in of Morongo Valley’s new Fire Chief Gary Yearsley kicked off last night’s regular monthly meeting of the Community Services District, or CSD, there; Jim Brakebill is second in command. Reporter Mike Lipsitz tells us what followed…
The board discussed and approved a jump in the new fire chief’s annual pay from $51,000 to $54,800, plus enhanced benefits valued at $3,800.
It wasn’t until meeting’s end that attendees learned of the resignation, without explanation, of director Darin Sanden. The CSD will be accepting applications for that seat until December 14. Under new business the board postponed until February adoption of updated California Fire Codes pending further review, and postponed until next month any decision on a new contract for CALFire Dispatch Services and for tree trimming in Covington Park. The board did approve donation of the district’s surplus medic engine to Rio Hondo College, and postponed any decision concerning repairs to another engine pending an analysis by Chief Yearsley. Under continued items, directors reviewed recent actions taken in response to an OSHA complaint.
