The Morongo Valley Community Services District board of directors held a brief special meeting last night to finalize a contract drafted during their last regular meeting on July 23. The board voted 3-0 (Director Laurie Klimowicz arrived late and Director Christina Gorkee was absent) to allow an outside agency to assist with fire prevention and inspections for fire letters related to commercial building projects in Morongo Valley. With exact figures now available, the board also approved the corrected compensation in the contract for Director of Operations Gary Yearsley. (The contract was tabled during the bard’s previous board meeting due to the figures being rounded).
Lastly, the board discussed the possibility of completing the Covington Park kitchen for public use. After meeting with a representative from the County health department, Fire Chief and Director of Operations Gary Yearsley stated that the kitchen would require approximately $20,000 in upgrades to meet county specifications. After lengthy discussions, the board agreed that the kitchen could be used for food storage and basic prep during events where people bring their own food, but that food could not be cooked or sold out of the kitchen at this time. The board agreed to look for possible grants to allow them to complete the kitchen to county specifications at a later date.
