The Morongo Valley CSD Board met in a meeting described as rude and disrespectful with attendees shouting and interrupting the proceedings last night. Reporter Mike Lipsitz was there to see what happens when a softball league is asked to pay their own way…
The several dozen residents in attendance last night were drawn there by a proposal that Morongo Valley’s all-volunteer youth softball league might soon have to come up with rental fees for use of Geeson Field and even more money to secure liability insurance. As far as insurance, the league has relied on signed liability wavers in lieu of carrying their own policy, but underwriters increasingly disallow the wavers. The insurance requirement is an issue facing most every non-profit community organization statewide. And while the CSD can’t dictate insurance requirements, the board decided to investigate some ways the league and other organizations might lower the cost by tagging on to the CSD’s policy. As for the fees, the cash-strapped CSD decided to form an ad hoc committee to look at how to pay the bills without encumbering the youth softball league.
