The Morongo Valley Community Services District Board of Directors discussed two District grants at last night’s board meeting. The Morongo Valley Fire Department was recently awarded an $85,000 joint grant with the Fire Department in Yermo. The board passed a memorandum of understanding between the two fire departments and voted unanimously to spend Morongo Valley’s $49,000 portion of the grant on new extrication equipment. The Board also approved the spending of a $12,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security on other miscellaneous fire department purchases. At last night’s meeting, the Morongo Valley CSD also discussed a previously tabled policy which proposed dispatching the Fire Department’s Brush Engine to mapped areas of Morongo Valley with unkept, unpaved roads to minimize wear-and-tear on the Fire Department’s medic engine. After an hour of discussion and arguments among board members and comments from members of the Morongo Valley Fire Department, no consensus could be reached among Board members. The topic was tabled again, pending further review of the proposed map and further discussions with members of the Morongo Valley Fire Department.
