To recognize the National School Lunch Program and the 30 million children it serves every day, Morongo Unified School District schools will recognize National School Lunch Week from October 13 through 17. Created by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National School Lunch Week is a weeklong celebration of the school lunch program. “School lunches are healthier than ever, with more fruits and vegetables, more whole grains, and less fat and sodium” said Janet Barth, Director of Nutritional Services. “National School Lunch Week is the perfect time to celebrate all of the healthy options we’re serving every day in Morongo Unified schools.” The federally-funded program provides nutritionally balanced, healthy meals to students everyday. The program has been serving the nation’s children for over 60 years.
