The Morongo Unified School District Board met in two open sessions yesterday. The first was a workshop to provide information on planned expenses for new technology including a more efficient District-wide phone system, and 960 new desktop computers for school labs. The new computers are 10 times faster than those now in use. Also in the workshop session, principals from Twentynine Palms, Landers, Morongo Valley and Onaga Elementary Schools presented their corrective action plans for moving student achievement scores closer to state proficiency minimums. The deadline for applications for the new superintendent has ended. Board President Chris Proudfoot said of the 23 applicants received, it’s, “a good number to look at for the superintendent search based on input received from the town hall meeting and other sources.” After breaking for a closed session the board reconvened and approved each school’s Plan for Student Achievement, as well as the expenditures for new technologies.
