MORONGO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD MET LAST NIGHT, THREE PUBLIC HEARINGS HELD

Three public hearings were discussed at last night’s school board meeting. The issues were the school and SELPA budgets for the 2013-2014 school year. Chanda-Lyn Fraschetti has the details…
The first hearing pertained to the budget for the 2013-2014 school year. Per Assistant Superintend, David Price, the budget presentation given at the special board meeting on June 17 showed a surplus for the next three years even with the new 5 percent reduction required by Governor Jerry Brown. Price did acknowledge that the district must still develop a spending plan that is interpreted into the budget to meet the Governor’s new local control funding formula. The second hearing discussed the budget for the SELPA, which is funding for special education. Price said an expected $5.8 million is expected in revenue from local and state governments. This money covers expenses for education, mental health, and transportation from birth to 21 years old. To date, the district has 1,262 students on the program. The last hearing was about the SELPA service plan, which must report to the state every year the services that will be provided during the school year. All three hearings were passed 5-0 by the board.
