The lead item on the action agenda at the May 5 meeting of the Morongo Unified School District Board of Education is its vote on the Hi-Desert Water District wastewater treatment assessment, for the properties the school district owns in the water district. Before it gets to that decision in the 7 p.m. open session, the board will have had a long closed session, starting at 4:30 p.m., to consider pupil expulsions, employee discipline, and union contracts. At the start of the open session, teachers and classified employees of the year in west end sites, and the district office will be recognized. Then there will be presentations on Independent Continuing Education and summer maintenance projects before the action agenda is attacked. Other items on the action agenda include: a Transfers of Appropriations resolution; a declaration of need for educators; CAHSEE waivers and FITNESSGRAM exemptions; the ROP and AVID agreements; the board policy on advanced placement; and textbooks and/or course outlines for statistics, Japanese, and career engineering. The board meets at Joshua Tree Elementary School on Sunburst Avenue.
