Deputies from Sheriff’s Morongo Basin station held a special DUI enforcement period on Friday night, during which they were out looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
A representative from the Sheriff’s Morongo Basin station told Z107.7 that during the four hour enforcement period, deputies issued 45 traffic citations and made one felony arrest for probation violation. No arrests were made for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The Sheriff’s Department announces special enforcement periods ahead of time to make sure drivers think twice before getting behind the wheel, and an enforcement period with no DUI arrests is considered to be successful.
Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
