The Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station has joined a video-sharing partnership with the doorbell-camera company Ring, along with more than 400 other law enforcement agencies across the country. The doorbell camera gives homeowners—and officers, if homeowners choose to share the video—access to doorbell camera footage taken at the front doors of private homes. The cameras can stream real-time video to a user’s computer or smart phone, and users can see and talk to people on their doorsteps. Customers with a Ring camera will be able to share videos with Morongo Basin Sheriff’s deputies through the Neighbors app. While the Ring system and Neighbors App are great tools for sharing information, they are not monitored by the Sheriff’s Department, nor is the Neighbors App designed to replace traditional crime reporting. If you are a victim of a crime, or you want to report suspicious activity, call the Sheriff’s Department at 760-366-4175.
