Every year the county assessor must assign a value to each property in the county. Those values usually increase, and this year is no exception; however, property values in our Morongo Basin this year increased at a lower rate than the rest of the county. Reporter Mike Lipsitz is here with the numbers…
The Assessment Roll submitted to the County Tax Collector last week shows 815,000 taxable parcels countywide valued just under $248 billion, a 5.7 percent increase from 2019.
In Morongo Basin property values demonstrated more modest increases with Yucca Valley showing the strongest gain with a 5.1 percent increase, the unincorporated areas showing a 4.7 percent increase, and Twentynine Palms realizing the slowest growth at 4.4 percent.
The figures represent a snapshot of property values as of January 1; the assessor’s report emphasizes that events that might affect property values but occurring after January 1 would be reflected in the 2021 report. Specifically, the impact of COVID-19, if any, on property valuations here will not be seen until next year’s assessment roll.
