The Desert Theatre League handed out its Desert Star Awards Sunday, and there were several Morongo Basin winners.
Rebecca Havely of Twentynine Palms won Outstanding Director and Outstanding Production of a comedy for “Brighton Beach Memoirs,” performed at Desert Theatreworks.
Aidan Bosworth, who is currently performing as Seymour Krelborn in Theatre 29’s “Little Shop of Horrors,” won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a drama for “The Diary of Anne Frank” at Palm Canyon Theatre.
Elizabeth Schmelling of Yucca Valley won two awards: Outstanding Lead Actress and Outstanding Supporting Actress for her performances in “Ruthless! The Musical” and “Hairspray” at the Desert Rose Playhouse and Palm Canyon Theatre.
The Hi-Desert Cultural Center won six awards. Lead Actor in a comedy went to Ben Bees for “Coming Attractions.”
Jericho McWilliams was named Outstanding Supporting Actor in a comedy for “Coming Attractions.”
Analisa Pilecki won Outstanding Lead Female Performer in a cabaret/revue for “Love Songs from Broadway.”
“Heroes” won Outstanding Staged Reading, and Howard Shangraw won two awards for “Heroes”: Outstanding Director of a Staged Reading—Professional and Outstanding Lead Performer in a staged reading—Professional.
