The Morongo Basin MAC will meet tonight. Reporter David Haldane says the main point of local interest is a presentation by the BLM on proposed off-road vehicle routes…
The Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council will end its regular meeting tonight almost before it begins. The adjournment will be symbolic, to honor the victims of the Dec. 2 terror attack in San Bernardino. And though the meeting will actually continue following the memorial adjournment, its agenda will be sparse, consisting of the usual public comment period, reports by members and staff and, finally, a presentation on the West Mojave Route Network Project. That’s a plan by the Bureau of Land Management to provide motorized recreational access to millions of acres it manages in the West Mojave Desert. The goal: to protect the desert tortoise, the Mojave ground squirrel and more than 100 other sensitive plants and animal species.
The meeting gets under way 6:30 p.m. at the Joshua Tree Community Center on Sunburst Avenue.
