MORONGO BASIN MAC TO HEAR A PROBLEM WITHOUT A CURE TONIGHT

If you’ve been coughing and spending more time dusting off furniture lately, there may be a reason. Reporter David Haldane explains…
Solar power equals dust.
That’s the equation postulated in a presentation that member Pat Flanagan will make to the Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council tonight. While windy dusty days are a traditional feature of life in the desert, Flanagan believes, the proliferation of solar energy facilities—with their large flat areas devoid of vegetation—has greatly exacerbated the problem in our region.
Her solution: study the issue more thoroughly and be more vigilant regarding the construction of any new solar facilities. If the title of her presentation is any indication, however, Flanagan may not be all that optimistic herself. Its title: “Mojave Desert Solar Development—A Problem without a Cure.”
Tonight’s meeting gets underway 6:30 p.m. at Joshua Tree Community Center on Sunburst Avenue.
