MORONGO BASIN MAC TAKES UP DESERT TRANSPORTATION TONIGHT

If you’re interested in desert transportation, you might want to attend tonight’s meeting of the Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council. Reporter David Haldane explains…
Three point one million acres.
That’s how much Mojave Desert land is administered by the Bureau of Land Management. It’s also the target area for something called WEMO—short for West Mojave Route Network Project—designating specific travel routes and related travel management plans and implementation strategies for the area.
Plat Flanagan, a local environmentalist, will be speaking on the project at tonight’s Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council meeting, billed as a working session during which participants are encouraged to bring up questions and concerns.
Comments to the BLM are due by June 14.
Tonight’s meeting gets underway 5:30 p.m.—thirty minutes earlier than usual—at the Joshua Tree Community Center on Sunburst Avenue.
