The Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council smells free money. Reporter David Haldane explains…
If you live on a street that needs crosswalks, the Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council wants to hear from you. Ditto traffic lights, bike lanes, paving or storm drains.
In fact, just about anything having to do with road safety could qualify. That was the gist of a presentation at last night’s MAC meeting outlining a program that will pay federal dollars to improve area streets. It’s called the Highway Safety Improvement Program, and the MAC—which advises San Bernardino County on such matters—wants to get on board.
Celeste Boyle, the Joshua Tree resident who brought it to the council’s attention, says there’s no time to lose. “This is an ongoing annual program. It’s free federal money, and if we get a project that qualifies it’s better for us.”
