The Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council, MAC, heard a presentation about Joshua Tree National Park’s much-needed search and rescue dogs at last night’s meeting. Reporter Andrew Dieleman was there and explains…
Kirk and Alice Waltermire are search-and-rescue volunteers who work hand-in-paw with their team of search-and-rescue dogs. For the past eight years, the volunteer team has been hard at work finding missing hikers in Joshua Tree National Park. The Waltermires gave a presentation on their program to board members at last night’s Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council meeting, discussing how the dogs are trained and how effective the dogs are at finding lost hikers. After the presentation, the Waltermires urged park visitors to tell someone where and when they will be hiking and to bring plenty of water with them before hitting the trails. The meeting also included public safety reports and reports from members of the board.
