MORONGO BASIN MAC IN AN “ELECTRIFYING” MEETING LAST NIGHT

Morongo Basin MAC gatherings aren’t generally described as pulsating. By at least one definition, however, last night’s meeting may have broken the mold. Reporter David Haldane was there and explains…
You could call it an electrifying meeting. If you did, however, you’d be describing its subject rather than the level of excitement it generated.
We’re talking, of course, about last night’s gathering of the Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council at which two representatives of Southern California Edison described some of the energy giant’s challenges and plans.
Luis Lara talked about power outages and how the company handles them. And Jennifer Cusack outlined Edison’s new Time-of-Use rate plans, under which customers pay according to when they use the electricity. Off-peak periods, like weekends, cost less than peak times like weekday evenings. Beginning this month, she said, about 10 percent of SCE’s customers will be charged that way, with the remainder following by 2020.
In other business, the MAC changed its future meeting times from 6:30 to 5:30 p.m. despite complaints from some members that they would be grumpy without their dinners.
