The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors is about to get an earful, judging from the tone at last night’s meeting of the Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council.
The council got a preview of appeals filed by local residents challenging two controversial projects recently approved by the county. Local architect Janet Johnston blasted the Alta Mira housing project—which would put 248 homes on 115 acres in Joshua Tree—as inconsistent with the community plan. And Thomas Fjallstram, another Joshua Tree resident, characterized the Joshua Tree Solar Farm—planned on the 110 acres of the former Roy Williams Airport—as inappropriate for its location, unsightly and environmentally damaging.
“We’re extremely frustrated with the county. And yes, we consistently feel like the county reps are not listening to us. We’re not being represented and the county doesn’t care about what our community wants.”
